FROM SHY TO SHINING

by Sofía Marcos

Having good relationships with others in different areas of your life is important, especially in the workplace. For that, I want to talk to you a about a very famous actor (which many of you probably know) and how he considered himself as a very shy person, without any taste for fame. Because he related with others in different aspects of his life, he reached where he is now.

John Christopher Depp, also know as Johnny Depp, was born in Owensboro, Kentucky in 1963. He is a well-known actor for his interpretation of many different characters from many films like ‘Ed Wood’, ‘Sleepy Hollow’, ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’, and as well as his role of Captain Jack Sparrow in ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’. He began studying acting by 1987, when he got a role on the TV show ‘21 Jump Street’.

He and his family moved frequently to accommodate his father’s job. He hated most of the places he moved in. By the age of 12 years old, he began smoking, experimenting drugs and engaging in self-harm because of family issues. "Puberty was very vague," he has said. "I literally locked myself in a room and played guitar."

Apart of his personal life, he continued devolving socially, gaining critical relationships and increasing popularity for his work. Although he was shy and timid at the beginning because he went through a lot of changes throughout his childhood, he managed to improve his interpersonal relationships with others.

In one of the many interviews made to Johnny Depp he said: I'm shy, paranoid, whatever word you want to use. I hate fame. I've done everything I can to avoid it.” Considering Johnny personality, his perfect role may be ‘Edward Scissor Hands’ because this character was very introverted, shy, timid, silent and antisocial, which resembles very accurate Johnny’s real personality.
